It’s the summer season which will find many of you out at the local beaches and pools trying to beat the summer heat. Klinke Cleaners has some tips for you on how to best care for your swimming suits and other swimwear to help them come clean and last.
Swimwear can be an expensive purchase so you want to take care of it so it lasts you at least through one Wisconsin summer, hopefully more. At Klinke Cleaners we know this is important for you so we’ve pulled together some information to help you care for your favorite swimsuit.
Rinse After Every Use – Even if you’re just sitting in the sun, catching some rays, it’s important to rinse your swimsuit out with cool tap water. Sweat can affect the elasticity of your suit and cause it to stretch prematurely.
Soak it in Cold Water – Rather than simply rinsing your suit, try soaking it for about half an hour to really remove any sweat, sand and pool chemicals.
Wash It – Rinsing and soaking are important but don’t replace a good washing. Hand washing a swimsuit is the best way to keep it in topnotch shape, even if the label says it is machine washable. Use a small amount of liquid detergent.
Dry Flat – There are several no-no’s when it comes to drying a bathing suit because they decrease the lifespan and/or affect the color. Don’t wring your suit dry, don’t drape it over a railing to dry in the sun, and don’t throw it in the dryer. This leaves you with the one, truly safe way to dry your swimwear, squeeze out as much water as you can and then lay it flat on a towel to dry, out of the sun.
See a Drycleaner – While most daily wear that a swimsuit sees can easily be handled at home, sunscreens and tanners can leave stains that you won’t be able to remove. This is when we can help. Contact your local Klinke Cleaners to see about getting these pesky stains removed.
Also, if you’re storing your swimwear for the season, it’s a good idea to take it all in to a Klinke Cleaners location before storing, just to make sure all of the harsh chemicals and abrasive sand grains are removed. Enjoy the water!
